Ormai decisamente ricolmo di templi e rovine, non sprizzavo di gioia all’idea di un altro tempio in Dambulla, anche perché, mi avevano detto, non è nulla di speciale. Mi avevano detto bene: si tratta di un tempio con delle grotte e alcuni affreschi all’interno… non si resta a bocca aperta.

I was quite brimful of temples and ruins, so I was not really happy about the idea of the next temple in Dambulla, even because, somebody told me that it was not so amazing. They were right: is a temple with some caves and frescoes in it… is not breath away.

 

 

La mia destinazione successiva era Kandy, una delle cittadine dove, si dice, ci sia la più alta elevazione spirituale: qui, nel tempio principale della città, è custodito il dente di Buddha.

My next destination is Kandy, one of the city where there is the highest soul level: here, in the main temple, there is the tooth of Buddha.

La città è piuttosto interessante, assolutamente non calda e con una disposizione intorno ad un lago che la rende più affabile. Ci sono alcuni bar cosa che, sembra strano a dirsi, non è uno standard nazionale: finora ne ho trovato uno solo, in Sigiriya e chiudeva alle 21.00. Dandy sembra un po’ più viva… ma non posso confermartelo: il mio hotel (in seguito ho appurato essere uno standard di molte guesthouse in città) chiudeva le porte alle 22.00. -.-“ I singalesi non sono pro-feste-notturne o intrattenimenti e svaghi vari: la disciplina del buddismo è ancora molto sentita.

The city is quite interesting, not hot and arrange around a lake. There are some bars, which is not so easy: till now I found just one, in Sigiriya and it was closing at 21.00. Here looks more alive… but I can’t guarantee that because my hotel (many guesthouses does like this) was closing the doors at 22.00. -.-” Shingles are not pro-night-party or similar things: Buddhism discipline is still quite strong. 

 

Anche a Colombo, la capitale, quando cercavo un bar, gli abitanti mi hanno consigliato di andare in un supermercato, comprare degli alcolici e berli in camera… ho dovuto spiegargli che non volevo né ubriacarmi né restare in isolamento nella mia stanza di hotel. Comunque il bar, a Colombo, non l’ho trovato (non che l’abbia cercato troppo… però…) e a Kandy non l’ho visitato.

Even in Colombo, the capital, when I was looking for a bar, Shingles  told me that I could go to a supermarket, buy some alcohol and drink it in the room… I had to explain them that I didn’t want neither to get drunk nor to be alone in the hotel room. Anyway, I didn’t find the bar in Colombo (I didn’t look for it very well) and I didn’t get in the bar in Kandy. 

 

 

 

 

Da qui, ho preso treno e autobus per Dalhousie, piccolo villaggio che sarebbe stato il punto di partenza per il tanto famigerato Adam’s Peak… di questo ti racconto poi.

From here I took train and bus to Dalhousie, a small village that will be the base for the famous Adam’s Peak… this I’ll tell you later.
