Let’s go to Chongqing. Two hours by train from Chengdu.

English is a language that is not popular, so to do the ticket, and to reach any other place, I asked in the hostel to write me down in Chinese the name of the destination.

L’inglese è una lingua che non viene contemplata. Di conseguenza per fare il biglietto (e per raggiungere qualsiasi altro luogo) mi sono fatto scrivere il nome della destinazione in cinese.

But the woman of the ticket office speak enough english to explain me that there were not anymore tickets for seats… just stand ticket.

Ma la bigliettaia parlava sufficientemente inglese da spiegarmi che non c’erano più biglietti per i posti a sedere… solo posti in piedi.

I was expecting the worst trip by train of my life, but some girls gave me a “stool” to sit with them. Obviously we didn’t talk, english is avoided, but anyway they have been really nice. 

Ero già pronto a uno dei peggiori viaggi in treno della mia vita, ma delle ragazze mi hanno dato uno “sgabello” dove sedermi insieme a loro. Chiaramente non abbiamo parlato perché l’inglese è un mistero mistico, ma il gesto è stato molto gentile.

About the train, instead, it’s really nice, similar to ours and on board you find the same services that are normally on ours airplane: crew in uniform that offer some meals, explanations about emergency exit and similar things. Nice… definitely much better then what I was expecting transports in China.

Parlando del treno, invece, è davvero bello, moderno, simile ai nostri e a bordo trovi gli stessi servizi che troveresti sugli aerei: assistenti in divisa che passano con del cibo, spiegazioni sulla uscite di emergenza e cose simili. Bello… decisamente molto migliore da come mi immaginavo i treni in Cina.

I liked Chengdu, so I hoped that the first touch with Chongqing wouldn’t disappoint me.

Mi piaceva Chengdu, quindi l’impatto con la nuova città speravo non mi deludesse.

Chongqing is completely different as structure: it goes upwards, with many buildings on different floors… let say that it depends from tastes… I prefer the linearity of Chengdu.

In realtà Chongqing è completamente diversa come struttura: va verso l’alto, piena di salite, discese e costruzioni su molti piani… diciamo che va a gusti… io preferisco la linearità di Chengdu.

It’s hard to say it because I couldn’t talk about it with any Chinese, but I think that this city is “less modern”: have more varied, with areas still under constructions, in development and with views the changes completely while remaining a few tens of meters. 

Faccio fatica a dirlo, perché non ho avuto modo di parlarne con qualche cinese, ma questa città mi è sembrata “meno moderna”: più varia, con aree ancora in sviluppo e con scorci che cambiavano completamente pur restando a poche decine di metri.

Look, for example, you start with a touristic areas, where you find some local restaurants, a bridge under construction, many tourists.

Guarda, ad esempio, si parte dalla zona turistica dove si trovano un po’ di ristoranti locali, un ponte in costruzione, molti turisti.

Moving of 50 meters, you find monasteries, beggars and shop more in line with the “bare/modern” Chinese style.

Spostandosi di 50 metri, si trovano monasteri, mendicanti e negozi più in linea con lo stile “spoglio/moderno” cinese.

The you arrive to the main street, full of lights, worldwide brads, and an avalanche of people.

Poi si arriva nella via principale della città, ricca di luci, i soliti brand famosi in tutto il mondo e con una valanga di persone.

But ended the street you finish in front of the old town… not ancient, old… I’ve seen and for the moment I didn’t get in…

Ma terminata la strada si finisce davanti alla città vecchia… non antica, vecchia… ho visto l’entrata e per il momento non mi ci sono addentrato…

Anyway, the town is interesting and the evening, the area of Hongya Cave (the touristic one) is fantastic.

In ogni caso la città è interessante e la sera, la zona di Hongya Cave (quella turistica) è fantastica.

Here the building is on 11 floors and it is a typical Chinese style: Bayu, a famous architectural style on raised wooden stilts.

Qui la costruzione è su 11 piani ed è uno stile tipico cinese: Bayu un famoso stile architettonico su palafitte di legno sollevate.
