Una cosa mi va di farti notare: la differenza tra forestieri (i turisti) e gli abitanti del luogo. Due modi di far festa completamente diversi… due mondi assolutamente distanti.

See, Filipinos do not dance … or better, dance only if in the blood vessels is flowing a quantity more than adequate of alcohol. They sing to karaokee… which is the same thing we do when we are drunk in the fatal rotting. You can not even imagine how popular and how much they care to do it well.

Vedi, i filippini non ballano… o meglio, ballano solo se nei vasi sanguigni sta scorrendo una quantità più che adeguata di alcool. Loro cantano al karaokee… che è la stessa cosa che noi facciamo nell’infausto caso in cui siamo sbronzi marci. Non puoi nemmeno immaginare quanto sia popolare e quanto ci tengano a fare bella figura.

Nothing new however: even the foreigners we give in to alcohol.

Nulla di nuovo invece: anche i forestieri ci danno dentro con l’alcool.

Infatti a fine serata non è detto che ci arrivino proprio tutti.

I do not want to follow the habit of foreigners… I prefer to try to get in touch with someone of the place, to join the Filipino mentality: what I can’t find at home is exactly that… not the evenings to the sound of alcohol and dancing.

Non ho voglia di seguire l’andazzo dei forestieri… preferisco cercare di entrare in contatto con qualcuno del luogo, di unirmi alla mentalità filippina: quel che non posso trovare a casa è esattamente questo… non le serate a suon di alcool e balli.

So every time I could, I made friendship with the locals and tried to learn a bit of Tagalog (hard task). I know I will miss the smile and the eyes of the populationof the Philippines.

Quindi ad ogni occasione ho stretto amicizia con gli abitanti del luogo e ho cercato di imparare un po’ di tagalog (ardua impresa). Il sorriso e gli sguardi della popolazione delle Filippine so già che mi mancheranno.
